Why Hydration Matters

Summer Hydration Checklist for Horses


  • Always provide fresh, clean water; keep buckets shaded and scrubbed.

  • Offer soaked feeds (beet pulp, hay pellets) to boost hydration.

  • Provide salt to encourage drinking.

  • Use electrolytes to replace salts lost in sweat.

  • Check before/after rides for overheating (sweating, rapid breathing, dullness).

  • Take shade breaks and walk slowly during long workouts to cool down.

Ice boots are also an excellent tool for reducing heat and supporting the lower limbs after strenuous exercise or jumping.
