KINESIOLOGY TAPING

img_1301.jpeg

WHAT IS IT?

Kinesiology is the study of motion, and kinesiology taping addresses movement through the tape/hair connection. Kinesiology tape helps balance neural circuitry in the skin, muscles, and joints. The tape is non-restrictive, it has 180 percent stretch and moves with the animal (or person.)

BENEFITS OF USE

The goal of using tape is to increase awareness of the horse, or dog, to its body. By lifting the hair, and therefore the hair receptors, the body part is talking directly to the brain. The tape affects the nervous system’s input and lets the animal know where its body is in space. It is also thought to inhibit pain pathways and may help to normalize muscle tone. Kinesiology taping can also help with pain, inflammation (fluid dynamics), and post work recovery.

TAPING INDICATIONS

img_7313.jpeg
  • Pain

  • Swelling

  • Weakness

  • Balance issues

  • Movement dysfunction

TAPING CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Open wounds

  • Adhesive reaction - usually in humans

  • Cancer

My training in kinesiology taping was taken with Dr. Wendy Coren , D.C. AVCA, IVCA,VOM. Many of my sessions use a combination of massage, taping and PEMF for a comprehensive approach with focus on multiple areas of concentration of the horse and/or athlete.
