I am happy to announce I have now completed my training in Advanced Equine Sports Massage through Animal Dynamics. My head is spinning somewhat, but I hope to do more continuing education to provide the best service and results for my clients. President of Animal Dynamics, Don Doran and his wife Lisa have a plethora of first hand knowledge and expertise. They have both treated a myriad of top athletes, human and equine, and humbly pass on that hard earned experience in their classes. If you're in Florida and are getting ready for season and want your equine partner to be willing, eager and ready to take on the competition give me a call or email to set up an appointment. As always feel free to comment/ask questions below .
Here at Cottage Farm we use a variety modalities to assist with injury prevention, recovery and rehabilitation. We use and recommend RevitaVet Light Technology which is available in red light only pads and poll cap which are very simple to use, portable and super lightweight and red/infrared , 7 program IR2 and IR2 Complete, and an add on to this system is hoof pads.
Our highlight here is the RevitaVet IR2. The photo below shows the unit being used on the fetlocks . The fetlock is ahigh motion joint, even relatively mild arthritis can adversely affect performance. The 2 pads can be easily used on multiple locations such as coronet bands, vertically for tendons, horizontally on hocks . If using for wound healing we suggest covering the LEDS with cling cover to keep applicator clean.
Red light is thought to work by producing a biochemical effect in cells that strengthens the mitochondria. The mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell — it’s where the cell’s energy is created. The energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things is called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). By increasing the function of the mitochondria using RLT, a cell can make more ATP. With more energy, cells can function more efficiently, rejuvenate themselves, and repair damage. RLT is different from laser or intense pulsed light (IPL) therapies because it doesn’t cause damage to the skin surface.
Visible red light, at a wavelength of 630-660 nanometers penetrates tissue to a depth of about 8-10 mm (approx. 3/8th") It is very beneficial in treating problems close to the surface such as wounds, cuts, activate trigger and acupuncture points and is particularly effective in treating infections. Infrared light (800-1000nm) penetrates to a depth of about 30-40 mm ( approx. 1.6"in) which makes it more effective in the treatment of joints, deep muscle, tendons etc.
